StatSheet is projecting New Mexico to make the NCAA Tournament as a four seed. The Lobos are, at this point, on track for an automatic bid, but they won't need to win their conference tournament as they're the #15 team in the AP Poll and sit at #8 in the StatSheet StatRank. They have a 26-5 overall record and a 13-3 record in the Mountain West.
During its last four games, New Mexico registered a quality win against RPI #29 San Diego State and wins against Nevada and Wyoming but also struggled with a loss against RPI #68 Air Force.
New Mexico is tough against strong competition, with a 16-5 record against the RPI Top 100 that includes an 8-3 record against the RPI Top 50 but an 0-1 record against AP ranked teams. The Lobos boast eight quality wins including RPI #29 San Diego State, RPI #15 Colorado State (2 wins), RPI #34 Boise State (2 wins), RPI #22 UNLV, and RPI #48 Cincinnati with no bad losses to speak of.
The last four teams into the NCAA Tournament with at-large bids are Alabama (20-11, 12-6 SEC, StatRank #63), La Salle (21-8, 11-5 A-10, StatRank #41), Baylor (18-13, 9-9 Big 12, StatRank #61), and Ole Miss (23-8, 12-6 SEC, StatRank #56).
The first four teams out are Iowa (20-11, 9-9 Big Ten, StatRank #75), Southern Miss (23-8, 12-4 Conference USA, StatRank #47), Virginia (21-10, 11-7 ACC, StatRank #63), and Wichita State (26-8, 12-6 Missouri Valley, StatRank #33).
The next four out are Arkansas (19-12, 10-8 SEC, StatRank #78), California (20-10, 12-6 Pac-12, StatRank #46), Providence (17-13, 9-9 Big East, StatRank #83), and St. John's (16-14, 8-10 Big East, StatRank #79).
